Azerbaijan, Baku, July 29 /Trend I. Izzet/

It is necessary to make efforts for the number of appeals to court in relation to the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan to be as small as possible, chairman of the Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev said.

He made the remarks on the first day of specialized courses on suffrage for the representatives of district electoral commissions of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

The chairman of the Constitutional Court, speaking on "The constitutional bases of suffrage and legal mechanisms of conducting it," noted that the courts receive a lot of appeals on the elections.

Some of them are related to the improper organization of the process and failures to ensure voters' rights.

Abdullayev said that the cases related to the election were heard at the Constitutional Court several times.

"Citizens should be aware that the court can immediately review their complaints. This is an important factor from the point of view of human rights and freedoms," he said.

The chairman of the court noted that Azerbaijan has defined its priorities by accepting the Constitution. He also added that the country has joined several conventions in this sphere, and overall Azerbaijan has joined important international laws defining its future.

"In these processes, we have to rely on our knowledge and make efforts to ensure fair elections," Abdullayev said.

Announcement of election results by the Constitutional Court is very important, and is also of great significant, Abdullayev said, adding that great progressive changes were made into the activity of CEC.

Abdullayev said that the CEC is more closely cooperating with international bodies and keeps up with global electoral processes.

"Proper conduct of the election is a great opportunity to show the country to the world community from a positive point of view," the Chairman of the Constitutional Court said.
