President Ilham Aliyev receives head of CIS Observation Mission to monitor presidential elections in Azerbaijan

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today received head of the CIS Observation Mission for the monitoring of presidential election in Azerbaijan, chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Slutsky.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today received head of the CIS Observation Mission for the monitoring of presidential election in Azerbaijan, chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Slutsky.

Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Alexey Sergeev was also present at the meeting.

Mr. Slutsky informed Azerbaijani President about the activities of the mission in Azerbaijan ahead of the upcoming presidential election in the country.

Slutsky said they visited several regions of the country and had eye-witnessed that the preparatory work for the election was excellently organized.

Slutsky hailed the activities of Azerbaijan`s Central Election Commission in this direction. He noted that preparatory work had been carried out in compliance with democratic standards.

He stressed the importance of ensuring the CIS Observation Mission`s collaboration with local and international organizations.

President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of the fact that the observation mission of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly would be monitoring the presidential election in Azerbaijan.

The Head of State hailed previous activities of the CIS monitoring mission in Azerbaijan as objective and successful.

Regarding the preparatory work ahead of this year`s presidential election, President Ilham Aliyev said monitoring missions had been closely watching the process, which, he noted, met international standards.

The President said all necessary conditions had been ensured in the country to ensure a democratic and transparent conduct of the election. The Head of State expressed confidence that the election would meet the highest international standards.

During the meeting, they noted that relations between Azerbaijan and Russia were developing successfully on all fronts, including in the field of interparliamentary cooperation.

President Ilham Aliyev and Leonid Slutsky underlined the importance of active cooperation of the two countries within the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
