A decision was made on the launch of the mass production of the HURKUS first domestic trainer aircraft. This decision was made at a recent meeting of the Turkish Defence Industry Executive Committee, Sabah newspaper reported today.

According to the newspaper, at the first stage around 15 HURKUS aircraft will be produced. In the future, depending on the decision of the Turkish Air Force Command, aircraft production can be increased.

The HURKUS first domestic trainer aircraft was successfully tested on August 29. Around 50 engineers and more than 350 professionals worked over the design of the plane.

HURKUS aircraft was created by the Turkish Research Centre for Aerospace Technologies (TUSAS).

The centre also produces parts for F-16 fighters, Airbus A380 and military Airbus A400M. TUSAS has also produced diffusers for Airbus A350 since 2012.

The Turkish defence industry has recently focused on developing and manufacturing its own products. Turkey managed to achieve a self-sufficiency level of 54 per cent in the defence industry.
