The United States looks forward to working closely with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Government of Azerbaijan in the coming five years, the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Richard Morningstar's statement on the inauguration of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, said on Monday.
"As with any partner, we have our differences, but we also have many shared critical interests," the statement said.
"We will continue to work with the Government and civil society to promote democratic values and principles in Azerbaijan. We also will work actively with the Government of Azerbaijan to help resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The U.S.-Azerbaijani bilateral agenda is broad and ambitious; it includes cooperation on regional security, counter-terrorism, energy security, and economic diversification. Over the next five years we hope to expand and deepen our relationship with the people and Government of Azerbaijan," the U.S. Ambassador's statement said.
