After the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius the GUAM format may serve as a relevant platform for implementing joint EU-GUAM projects, foreign ministers of GUAM member-states - Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova said today.

In particular, they underlined prospects for cooperation in the spheres of energy, transport, trade, tourism, education, combating international crime, etc., the communique of foreign ministers of GUAM member-states adopted within the summit said today, GUAM Secretariat told Trend.

The foreign ministers noted the progress achieved by the GUAM Member States in the process of their European integration.

The ministers stressed the importance of the European Union's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of GUAM Member States within their internationally recognized borders.

The foreign ministers once again emphasised that GUAM is an open organisation that invites EU and other partners, who share the principles of the organization.

GUAM was established by several post-Soviet countries in 1997 during the EU presidential summit in Strasbourg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organisation and left four years later. A decision was made to rename GUAM the Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM, at the body's first summit in Kiev in 2006.
