State committee head: Baku to host next meeting on border delineation with Russia

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.11

By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

The process of demarcation of borders between Azerbaijan and Russia will begin after the parties agree on a single scheme, Chairman of the State Committee for Land and Cartography of Azerbaijan Garib Mammadov told journalists on Dec.11.

During the previous meeting in Moscow, the parties adopted a single scheme for conducting the demarcation process and currently it is being studied according to Mammadov.

"Following the completion of this process we will begin the demarcation process through diplomatic channels," the committee head said.

The next meeting on the process that is very difficult and requires responsibility will be held in Baku, Mammadov said.

Mammadov didn't specify the time of the meeting.

Touching on the issues of delimitation of borders with Georgia, the committee head stressed that the countries are linked by a 480 kilometre long border and the issue on some 300 kilometres has already been agreed.

Currently the remaining part is being agreed at expert level.

"After this issue is agreed on by experts, it will be submitted for consideration of the State Committee for Demarcation and Delimitation of State Borders," Mammadov said.
