Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged the former footballer Hakan Sukur to abandon his MP position, Turkish TV channel TRT Haber reported on Dec. 16.

Hakan Shukur committed an act not expected of him, but in Turkey everyone has the right to freedom of expression, the PM said.

Erdogan said that, if the step taken by Sukur is sincere, then he can resign.

Last night, the former football player, MP Hakan Sukur resigned from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Turkey.

The cause for his resignation was the policy pursed by the ruling party on closing private training courses, according to the information.
