In January 2014, employees of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan prevented 28 attempts of illegal crossing of the state border resulting in the detention of 30 people, the press service of the State Border Service said on Feb. 13.

Azerbaijani citizens account for 14 of the detainees, while nine people are citizens of Uzbekistan; two are from Iran, two from Russia, one from Georgia, one from Turkey and one from Ghana.

In four cases, nine people were detained for the violation of the border regime rules. In 18 cases, 24 people were detained for the violation of the border regime in the Caspian Sea. The appropriate measures were taken against the detainees.

As a result of events conducted in the fight against crime, 187 wanted people were arrested and transferred to law enforcement authorities.

in 16 of these cases, six kilos 943 grams of drugs were detected and taken away.

There were 54 cases of smuggling. Employees of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan confiscated one air pistol, eight cartridges of 7. 62 caliber, 10 cartridges of 16 mile meters, 0.3 kilograms of powder, 232 mobile phones, 35 770 boxes of cigarettes, various medicines and alcoholic drinks worth 368 manats and an AKM machine gun was removed from a store.
