Sweden's embassy will be opened in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2014, Swedish ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mikael Eriksson told Trend on Feb. 13.

"Our embassy will be opened in a very short time. The formal announcement about the opening will be made in the next few days," the ambassador said.

It should be noted that a delegation headed by Sweden's State Secretary for Trade, Gunnar Oom visited Azerbaijan in 2013.

Gunnar Oom, during his meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, highlighted the significance of increasing ties between business circles in expanding the two countries' cooperation and noted that Sweden has decided to open its embassy in Azerbaijan in the near future.

He added that this indicates the significance attached to Azerbaijan by his country.

Currently the residence of the Swedish ambassador to Azerbaijan is located in Stockholm.
