Team of U.S. senators led by John McCain is expected to leave for Ukraine Thursday, members of the Senate staff told reporters Wednesday, ITAR-TASS reported.
The officially stated goal of the trip will be to demonstrate support for the incumbent government, the "democratic aspirations" of the Ukrainian people, and the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Apart from McCain, the bipartisan team is said to include the Senate majority whip Richard Durbin, John Barrasso, John Hoeven, Ron Johnson, Christopher Murphy, Jeff Flake, and Sheldon Whitehouse.
The Senate is currently considering a bill on loan guarantees to the Kiev powers that be to the tune of $ 1 billion and an introduction of sanctions against Russia.
