Bahman Aydin, the Felicity (Saadet) Party's candidate in the municipal elections in the Siirt province was killed on Monday, March 31 by unknown gunmen, according to the Turkish Anadolu news agency.
Additionally five people were injured.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
The Felicity Party is an oppositional Islamist party. During the elections the party gained less than one percent of the votes.
The municipal elections were held in Turkey on March 30. The Justice and Development Party won in the elections, gaining 45.6 percent of the votes.
