President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today received Turkmenistan`s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov.

Rashid Meredov conveyed greetings of Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov to the Azerbaijani leader.

He also handed over President Berdimuhamedov`s letter to President Ilham Aliyev inviting him to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan. Rashid Meredov hailed as special the role of friendship ties between heads of state in terms of expanding the bilateral relations.

President Ilham Aliyev described Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan ties as "dynamically developing".

The head of state said peoples of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have ancient history and ethnic roots, adding the two countries enjoy active cooperation in various fields. President Ilham Aliyev stressed the significance of personal ties between heads of state and high-level meetings in terms of enhancing the bilateral relations. The head of state expressed hope that the visit of Turkmenistan`s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov to Azerbaijan will contribute to further bolstering the relationship.

President Ilham Aliyev asked Rashid Meredov to pass on his greetings to Turkmenistan`s head of state.
