Two Azerbaijani citizens, serving sentences in Iranian prisons, were handed over to the Azerbaijani side, an informed source told Trend on April 7.

The prisoners were handed over on the basis of an agreement on prisoner exchange signed between Azerbaijan and Iran.

The prisoners serving sentences in Iran and handed over to Azerbaijan were accused of spying. It was reported that one of them is Eyvaz Mammadov, according to the Iranian portal tnews.ir.

Some 14 Iran's citizens, serving sentences in Azerbaijani prisons have been recently handed over to a representative of the Iranian judicial system at the Astara checkpoint. Nine more prisoners will be handed over to the Iranian side in the coming days. Some 11 prisoners serving sentences in Azerbaijani prisons were handed over to Iran on March 20.
