PACE deprives Russia of voting right until end of year

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe excluded Russia from all governing bodies of assembly until the end of the year and deprived it of the right to vote for the adoption of the Crimea by Russia for this period.

During discussion at PACE an amendment to the resolution on Russia was approved that suspends the powers of the Russian Federation in all governing bodies of PACE - Bureau, Presidential and Standing Committee, as well as on the deprivation of the right to participate in the observer mission of the assembly.

The MPs of the Council of Europe supported the report of the head of the Monitoring Committee of the Assembly Stefan Schennach that offers to stop the so-called "soft variant" of sanctions and to deprive the Russian delegation the vote at meetings of the PACE until the end of the year.

Nevertheless PACE rejected the offer from Robert Walter of the UK who offered to freeze the powers of the Russian delegation completely.
