The ITAR-TASS report on Azerbaijani Parliament chairman Ogtay Asadov's statements on supporting Russia's position on Ukraine, is false, the embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine said on June 6.

"The chairman of Azerbaijani parliament didn't make such a statement, and he couldn't have made it. Azerbaijan's position on the issue is known and it doesn't change," the embassy's message said.

The message noted that Azerbaijan supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine during the voting in The UN General Assembly, held in March of this year.

The embassy also said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sees the country's relations with Ukraine as strategic, and he was among the first to congratulate the new President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, conveying best wishes to the friendly Ukrainian nation.

The message also says that Asadov's presence at Petro Poroshenko's inauguration on the seventh of June, is an example of President Ilham Aliyev's attention to the choice of the Ukrainian nation.
