Ukraine's President-elect Petro Poroshenko at a solemn session of the Verkhovna Rada took the oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people on the Peresopnytsia Gospel in Kyiv on Saturday, Ukrinform reported.
"I, Petro Poroshenko, elected the President of Ukraine by the will of the people, taking this high office, solemnly swear allegiance to Ukraine," he said.
Thereafter Poroshenko received the certificate of taking the office of President and official symbols of the head of state - the Sign of the President of Ukraine, Seals and the Mace. Immediately thereafter, the President signed the oath and gave it to Chairman of the Constitutional Court Yuriy Baulin.
Central Election Commission Chairman Mykhailo Okhendovsky handed the Credentials of the President of Ukraine over to Poroshenko, and the Ukrainian National Honoured Academic Choir named after Veriovka performed the Prayer for Ukraine.
