Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei signed a decree on pardoning 1,052 convicts, Iranian television's website iribnews said on June 12.
The decree was signed in connection with the birthday anniversary of the Twelfth Imam Mahdi.
The pardoned convicts included those who were arrested for both political and civil offences, as well as the military crimes.
Iranian Judiciary Head Sadeq Amoli Larijani sent a letter to the Supreme Leader with regard to the birthday anniversary of the Twelfth Imam.
The letter included a request to pardon 1052 prisoners.
