Baku, Azerbaijan, June 13

The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (TurkPA) must take a tough stance on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Cemil Cicek said at the TurkPA fifth plenary session in Baku on June 13.

"Peace may be established in the Caucasus only after the occupation ends and over a million people return home.

"TurkPA must take a tough stance to ensure the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," he said. "This issue will be resolved within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Turkey raises this issue on all international platforms. This will be the main topic of our discussions till the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is ensured."

Cicek called on Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to rapidly join TurkPA.

"This is the only organization in the international arena, where Turkic-speaking countries can act," he said. "We will be glad to see other Turkic-speaking countries in this organization. This will help reach our goals soon."

He regretted that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus did not join TurkPA.

"The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is also our fraternal country," Cicek added. "The disagreements about joining TurkPA disappoint us."

It should be stressed that TurkPA includes Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
