Iran is ready to assist Iraq in the fight against terrorists within international law if Iraq wants it.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks at a press conference, the IRIN channel reported.
President noted that Iraq is a friend, and a neighboring state for Iran and a very sincere and close relationship was established between the countries.
"If Iraq asks for help in fighting terrorists, we will deal with this issue and will provide assistance in the framework of international law," Rouhani said.
The terrorist groups acted in Iraq also before this, but the recent actions show that they do not agree with the results of the voting, according to the president.
The capture the Iraqi city of Mosul shows that it is not the deed of the terrorists, but also other forces stand behind, he said.
"It is unreasonable to compensate defeat in the elections in Iraq with terrorist activities and revenge. We have no other choice but to fight against terrorism," Rouhani said.
He denied reports that Iran, together with the U.S. fight against terrorists in Iraq.
