The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will continue rendering necessary assistance to Ukraine, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at a PACE meeting as a chairman of the Committee of Ministers on June 23, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported.

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will continue rendering necessary assistance to Ukraine, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov
said at a PACE meeting as a chairman of the Committee of Ministers on June 23, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported.

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Mammadyarov said that all participants of the last meeting of the Committee of Ministers called for de-escalation and the peaceful settlement of the crisis. They reaffirmed their commitment to the territorial integrity, unity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. The ministers also welcomed the CE assistance to Ukraine.

The presidential election was held with a high turnout, in a peaceful atmosphere and in accordance with international obligations last month.

He stressed that the Committee of Ministers will continue rendering necessary assistance for the democratic progress of the country. It continues monitoring the developments in the region.

As for Georgia, Mammadyarov said that the Secretary General's report on the conflict in Georgia was discussed at a meeting of the Committee of Ministers. The concern was expressed about the violations of the rights of those who live in areas affected by the conflict. The support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia was stressed.

Mammadyarov said that the Committee of Ministers reaffirmed its commitment to the fight against the death penalty and reiterated the creation of a zone in Europe free of the death penalty.
