Baku, Azerbaijan, Aug. 13

Trend:

Azerbaijan National Independence Party (NIPA) decided to participate in the municipal elections without entering into an alliance with other political parties, chairman of NIPA Yusif Bagirzade told Trend on Aug. 13.

"Azerbaijan National Independence Party suggested that the United Democratic Forces (UDF) present a unified bloc, but has not yet received a response," he said.

"Therefore, it was decided to participate in the municipal elections without entering into an alliance with any political party," he said.

He added that it is much more difficult to participate as a unified bloc in municipal elections than in the presidential or parliamentary ones. The legal framework should be prepared to change the constitution of the parties to unify them in a bloc and all these processes take a long time.

Bagirzade stated that the political parties, members of the United Democratic Forces also intended to participate in the municipal elections without entering into the alliance.

"However, those parties would support each other," he said.

Bagirzade says that he supports participation of the opposition parties in the municipal elections without creating of blocs.

Azerbaijani municipal elections are scheduled for December 2014.
