As a result of special operations, Azerbaijan's Ministry of National Security arrested people suspected of being involved with illegal armed groups, the ministry's message said on Sept. 23.
The operations resulted in arrests of about 26 citizens, on suspicion of creating the armed formations or groups, not provided by the laws, participating in their activities, providing them with weapons, ammunition, explosives, military equipment, as well as attracting underage individuals to commit heinous crimes and other offenses.
The Main Investigation Department of Azerbaijan's Ministry of National Security filed criminal cases under Articles 12.1, 279.1 and 170.3 of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.
It was noted that the detained people illegally participated in the armed formations on the territory of Pakistan.
Up to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment is envisaged for the creation of armed groups whose activity is contrary to the law of Azerbaijan, participation in their activity, providing with weapons, ammunition, explosives, military equipment, army equipment; casualties as a result of terrorism.
Such a sentence is envisaged for influencing the decisions by international organizations and state government bodies, in prejudice of the health of people, committing explosions, arson and other acts that pose a threat of causing great damage to the property and other socially dangerous consequences, as well as blackmail, following such actions for this purpose.
This sentence is also envisaged for involvement of Azerbaijani citizens and people without citizenship, but residing in Azerbaijan, in armed conflicts outside of Azerbaijan under the guise of performing religious rites or motivated by religious hatred or the military exercises, establishing a permanent group, heading this group, committing unlawful acts, such as participation in these groups, exercises or armed conflicts.
