The government of Azerbaijan and OSCE have signed a memorandum of understanding on the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Baku.

The document was signed by Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier during the 69th regular session of the UN General Assembly that kicked off in New York on Sept.24.

During the meeting, the sides discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and OSCE, as well as the projects implemented by the organization's Baku Office.

Azerbaijan's foreign minister briefed Zannier about the process of negotiations on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The OSCE Office in Baku was changed into the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Baku as of Jan.1, 2014, in accordance with the decision adopted by the OSCE Permanent Council on July 26, 2013.

The Project Co-ordinator tasks are as follows:

1) Supporting co-operation between the government of Azerbaijan and the OSCE and its institutions aimed at implementing OSCE principles and commitments;

2) Planning and implementing projects between the relevant authorities of Azerbaijan and the OSCE and its institutions covering all three dimensions of the OSCE's comprehensive security concept and taking into account the needs and priorities of the government of Azerbaijan;

3) Maintaining contacts with governmental and non-governmental bodies, local authorities, universities, research institutions and NGOs;

4) Performing other tasks deemed appropriate by the Chairperson-in-Office or other OSCE institutions and agreed upon between the government of Azerbaijan and the OSCE.

The OSCE Office in Baku launched its operations on July 17, 2000.
