The authority of the Baku International Humanitarian Forum is growing every year, the Chairperson of the Russian Council of the Federation (upper house of the parliament) Valentina Matviyenko said at the opening of the fourth International Humanitarian Forum in Baku Oct. 2.

"It is informally called the 'intellectual Davos'," she said.

"This forum just as big, significant and important as other economic international events, especially in the current international conditions," she said.

Matviyenko also noted the forum participants' unanimous desire to intensify cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture and art.

"It must be emphasized that humanism remains a basic value nowadays," she said. "This is a desire to assert the human dignity and to fix the moral values both in everyday life and politics."

Matviyenko sees the main task of this forum in discussing new opportunities for cooperation in the humanitarian sphere as practical implementation of the real humanism values.

"Such a high level of the forum is the key to its success," she said.

"The Azerbaijani-Russian relations are a striking example of humanism. Today, this cooperation already has a solid legal basis. A key factor of its dynamic development is a dialogue of Azerbaijani and Russian leadership. The presidents of our countries personally made a special contribution to strengthening relations. The parliaments of the two countries have traditional friendly relations," Matviyenko said.

The International Humanitarian Forum in Baku will last from Oct. 2-3. Within the framework of the forum, tours to the country's districts, namely Nakhchivan, Lankaran, Quba and Qabala will be organized on Oct. 4-5.

Well-known politicians, representatives of the socio-political circles, scholars and figures of culture are also participating in the forum.
