Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct.23

By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:

The international community treats the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with the position of double standards, the Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov said.

He made the remarks at the meeting with the Regional Director for Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Renate Held, said the statement of the Committee released Oct.22.

Hasanov said that the Azerbaijani government attaches great importance to cooperation with IOM. The experience of the organization was used during the development of an appropriate legislative framework for migration, he said.

The projects implemented by IOM in Azerbaijan are of a high priority, the deputy prime minister said. He said that the implementation of large-scale international projects in the country, opening new jobs, improving the living conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons and other works attract the migrants. In this regard their number is growing, and there is a need to continue the projects with IOM in the priority areas.

Hasanov informed those attending the IOM meeting about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and 1.2 million refugees and internally displaced persons, which appeared as a result of the conflict. He said that the nonfulfillment of the resolutions adopted by international organizations on the conflict, the treatment of the international forces to the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with the position of double standards once again prove that this all these facts are anti-democratic.

Held said that despite the occupation of more than 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory, more than 1 million refugees and internally displaced persons, the country has made considerable progress. The IOM attaches great importance to cooperation with the Azerbaijani government, she said.
