Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 12

By Claude Salhani - Trend:

Iran and Azerbaijan have a lot to discuss, David Pollock, an expert at the Washington Near East Institute for Policy Studies, told Trend Nov. 12.

He made the remarks commenting on the official visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Azerbaijan.

This is Rouhani's first visit to Azerbaijan as Iran's president.

Pollock said Iran and Azerbaijan being neighbours obviously have a lot to discuss, such as border security.

He also said that unlikely Iran's nuclear program will be discussed in Baku as talks on this issue have been recently held in Oman adding "there is no need for a middleman in the talks right now."

According to Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee (SCC), the trade turnover of Azerbaijan with Iran in Jan.-Sept. 2014 stood at $144.045 million. Meanwhile, in the first nine months of 2014, Azerbaijan imported goods worth $115.6 million, and exported goods worth $28.45 million.
