Lavash has been inscribed on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in the form of traditional bread as an expression of culture in Armenia, the statement of press service of UNESCO said Nov.27.
Lavash has been inscribed on the Representative List of Intangible Heritage in the following way: "Lavash, the preparation, meaning and appearance of traditional bread as an expression of culture in Armenia," according to the statement.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan reported earlier that the Armenian provocation was prevented as a result of Azerbaijan's objection and activities carried out in this regard. It should be recalled that lavash was presented by Armenia in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage to UNESCO as "Tradition of baking Armenian bread-lavash."
Thus, the name of the file was changed in accordance with the requirements of the UNESCO Convention revealing that lavash doesn't belong to the Armenian nation, it only exists in Armenia too.
A joint meeting of representatives of countries in the region was held on the initiative of Azerbaijan within the framework of the Committee where it was decided that lavash will be presented to UNESCO as the common culinary heritage of the countries of the region in 2015.
