The member countries of the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development condemned the actions directed against their sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders.
The GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development is a regional organization of four post-Soviet states: Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova.
A meeting of the GUAM Foreign Ministers Council, held in Basel, took into account the information of the presiding side, that is, Moldova, on the work done to promote the draft resolution titled "Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development," the organization said Dec. 5.
The Foreign Ministers Council also took a decision to approve coordinating countries of the GUAM sectoral working groups for a period between 2015 and 2016.
The council also mulled the issues of GUAM's cooperation with other countries and international organizations, in particular holding the GUAM-US and GUAM-Japan regular meetings at the level of the Foreign Ministers Council.
The GUAM chairmanship was also handed over from Moldova to Ukraine at the meeting.
The meeting of the GUAM Foreign Ministers Council was held Dec. 5 in Basel, Switzerland as part of the OSCE ministerial meeting, which was attended by the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
GUAM was established by post-Soviet countries in 1997 during a summit of the EU countries in Strasburg.
In 1999, Uzbekistan joined GUAM but left it four years later.
In 2006, the first summit of this format held in Kiev decided to declare GUAM an international organization with a new name: GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development.
