The highest voter turnout in Azerbaijan's municipal elections has been so far registered in the Gusar No.51, Guba-Gusar No.53 and Guba No.52 constituencies, the Director of the Information Center at Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission (CEC) Rufat Gulmammadov told Trend Dec. 23.

He said the lowest voter turnout is being observed in the constituencies No.1, No.2 and No.3 in the Sabunchu district and the constituency No. 1 in the Nasimi district of Baku.

The voting in the municipal elections is underway in Azerbaijan.

Polling stations in the country opened at 08:00 (UTC/GMT +4 hours). The voting will end at 19:00 (UTC/GMT +4 hours).

Some 15,035 members will be elected to 1,607 municipalities.

The elections are being held in 118 constituencies. The voting will take place at 5,015 polling stations - around 4,887 of them are permanent and 128 - temporary.

The municipal elections are not being held in seven constituencies situated in the territories occupied by Armenia.

Some 37,077 candidates were registered in the municipal elections. Some 13,907 candidates were nominated by eight political parties, namely, New Azerbaijan Party, Ana Vatan party, Civil Solidarity Party, Umid party, Azerbaijani Social Democratic Party, National Revival Movement Party, Azerbaijan Democratic Reforms Party and Boyuk Qurtulus party.
