Azerbaijani and Russian MPs discuss cooperation prospects

The 12th meeting of the bilateral interparliamentary committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia and the Azerbaijani parliament was held in Baku Dec. 24, the parliament told Trend Dec. 23.

While opening the meeting, deputy chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament, chairman of the commission Valeh Alasgarov said that the changes in the commission staff will be discussed.

The commission's activity for the current year, as well as the challenges, facing the interparliamentary commission, were summed up.

Moreover, the cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan in the energy sector, the prospects and the legal support in terms of legislation will be discussed during the meeting.

The views on the expansion of the interregional cooperation between the two countries will be exchanged.

A plan of activity of the interparliamentary commission of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia and the Azerbaijani parliament for 2015 will be determined at the meeting.

The topic, date and venue of the 13th session will be also determined.

Alasgarov said that following the 11th meeting, the Azerbaijani side did not change the commission staff.

He expressed confidence in the Commission's successful activity. It contributes to the intensification of relations between the two countries and peoples.

Then Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, co-chairman of the commission Ilyas Umahanov expressed admiration for the development of Azerbaijan and innovation he faces during each visit to the country. Umahanov stressed that Azerbaijan is being rapidly developed and thanked for the warm reception.

The Russian side changed the Commission's staff in connection with the recent election in Russia. Around 30 percent of the total number of those who received mandates is women.

Following the meeting, co-chairmen of the commission held a press-conference. The journalists reported that the equitable cooperation between the two countries in various fields was discussed during the meeting.

Then the co-chairmen of the commission answered journalists' questions and expressed confidence that the Commission's activity will continue to be successful.
