Slovenia plans to open an embassy in Baku by mid-2016, Slovenian ambassador to Azerbaijan (with a residence in Ankara) Milan Jazbec told Trend Jan. 28.
He called Elnur Allahverdiyev's appointing Honorary Consul of Slovenia in Azerbaijan in 2014 a big step in the relations between the two countries.
"The opening of the embassy with one diplomat and an ambassador in Ankara will be the next major step," Jazbec said. "We are working on this issue."
He said that the two countries have similar views on international issues.
"A political dialogue is very important," he said. "But another goal of the political dialogue is to expand the economic cooperation between the two countries. We try to make every political visit to be economic as well. The recent trade turnover index [between Slovenia and Azerbaijan] is $15 million, but this is not enough. We intend to increase this figure."
