Azerbaijani armed forces launched a heavy blow to the enemy on the front line and destroyed and wounded up to 20 Armenian soldiers as a result of military clash that took place on March 19 at the front, the press service of the Azerbaijani defense ministry said Mar.19.

The information that allegedly the troops of Azerbaijani armed forces committed sabotage on the contact line of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops, disseminated by Armenian media is untrue, said the message. Armenian defense ministry, fearing the growing wrath of soldiers' mothers, deliberately conceals information about unsuccessful military operations and losses, the message said.

All the provocation of the enemy on the frontline will be severely suppressed, defense minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov said earlier, speaking to the staff of the tank units of Azerbaijani armed forces, said the message. He went on to add that the enemy must realize that he invaded the alien lands, and the only solution is to withdraw from the territories of Azerbaijan.

The defense ministry also said that the materials concerning the recent military clash on the frontline will be presented later.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
