President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received chairman of the Russian Cinematographers Union, film director Nikita Mikhalkov April 1.
Mikhalkov said he was pleased to visit Azerbaijan. Noting that he witnessed unprecedented development in Baku, Mikhalkov recalled with pleasure that an episode in one of his films was shot in the Azerbaijani capital.
Touching upon big development processes in the country, Mikhalkov praised national leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in establishing and strengthening statehood after Azerbaijan restored its independence.
President Aliyev in turn said that Azerbaijani-Russian ties were developing in various fields, including in humanitarian area.
Ilham Aliyev said Mikhalkov's visit will contribute to the development of cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Russia. The president said culture, including cinematography, enjoys state support in Azerbaijan, adding continuous work is being carried out to promote Azerbaijani culture worldwide.
The parties exchanged views over prospects for cooperation between the two countries in culture, including cinematography.
