Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr. 28

By Ilhama Isabalayeva - Trend:

The Press Council of Azerbaijan urged reporters to protect the image of the country, Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov told Trend April 28, commenting on the results of the last investigation on the fact that anti-Azerbaijani campaign is conducted from the office of US Secretary of State John Kerry.
.

Anti-Azerbaijani campaign is held not for the first time, he said. The country must be ready for such actions against it, as the first European Games in Baku is an important event in the life of the Azerbaijani people, said Amashov. This is not only a sporting event, but also an opportunity to present the culture of the country to the whole world, according to him.

The forces which envy the development of Azerbaijan are trying to create a negative image of the country, according to Amashov.

He said that today a great responsibility falls on the journalists of Azerbaijan, because similar negative statements will be made even more intense in the coming months. Therefore, the reporters of the country should properly inform the world community and the public aboutt Azerbaijan, according to Amashov.

Chairman of the Council said that holding an anti-Azerbaijani campaign from the office of US Secretary of State John Kerry is a part of a system of activity against Azerbaijan. The damage they can inflict to Azerbaijani statehood has been well calculated, he said.

He went on to add that there are such issues, the position on which, regardless of political orientation, should be the same, that is, to reflect the national interests. The first European Games are namely such an issue, Amashov said.

Amashov went on to add that similar actions were taken in anticipation of the Eurovision International Song Contest. During major events, foreign countries try to use local media structures, local NGOs against Azerbaijan, according to him.

He said that the country's citizens, those working in the media structures must come up with a nationwide position on some issues.

The results of the recent examination showed that an anti-Azerbaijani campaign is being conducted from Secretary of State John Kerry's office.

The National Endowment for Democracy organization has been charged with holding this campaign. The organization that is financed from the US budget, has been trying to create "the fifth column" in Azerbaijan for many years. NED has sent millions of dollars to some NGOs and media structures in Azerbaijan from the sources in the West.
