Azerbaijan reveals priorities in co-op with African countries

Baku, Azerbaijan, June 11

By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:

The African continent is a new space for the independent Azerbaijani state, and various economic, social and political projects are being implemented jointly with the African countries, said the Azerbaijani president's aide for public and political affairs, Ali Hasanov.

He made the remarks June 11, at a press conference on the European Games, held with participation of the local and foreign journalists.

Hasanov noted that since the majority of the African continent's countries are Muslim, Azerbaijan, as part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, has quite good relations with the African states.

"Various projects are being implemented within the organization," he said. "These relations are developing dynamically and will develop in the future."

"Azerbaijan has been recognized as an alternative source of energy in the world, and in line with this SOCAR is taking part in Europe's energy security and at the same time it functions as a business structure. SOCAR plans to work in African countries as well," Hasanov added.

He underscored that through SOCAR, Azerbaijan plans to produce hydrocarbon resources in Africa, and deliver them to the world markets.

"A few years ago, when Azerbaijan was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the African countries provided us with a great support, and we, taking the advantage, carried out a fruitful activity to convey to the world the problems of Africa."

Hasanov said that the relations between Azerbaijan and the African countries will continue to develop.
