Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with the members of the Board of Directors of the Press Council July 21 and very broad discussions were held, Ali Hasanov, Azerbaijani president's aide for public and political affairs told reporters July 22.

Hasanov said the president expressed his opinion about Azerbaijani media, analyzed and examined the tasks, place and role of Azerbaijani media outlets in the world, the economic, spiritual and other problems of journalists.

Hasanov added that the mentioned and other issues were discussed with the board members of the Press Council and certain decisions were made.

Azerbaijani state doesn't separate itself from media, regards their cares as its own and takes necessary care of media representatives, according to the president's aide.

Hasanov added that the care for Azerbaijani media will continue in the future as well.

"The president emphasized this in his speech yesterday," said Hasanov. "The head of state also noted that Azerbaijan doesn't imagine itself without independent media and it is the integral part of our society."

Furthermore, the top official said that the 140th anniversary of Azerbaijani national press is widely celebrated.

"Azerbaijani president has signed a special decree on the 140th anniversary of the national press," he said.

"In accordance with this decree, the action plan was approved and important events with direct participation of journalists were organized by Azerbaijani Press Council, State Fund for Support of Mass Media Development and presidential administration," Ali Hasanov added.
