Azerbaijan has urged Turkey and Turkmenistan to expand cooperation in security sphere, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov said Aug.28.

He made the remarks speaking in Antalya, Turkey at the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.

"It is necessary to continue cooperation in the sphere of security in order to prevent existing dangerous challenges involving terrorism, extremism and aggressive separatism, strengthening the independence of our countries and to provide favorable conditions for dynamic development in the region. Regional security, struggling against terrorism and energy security are among the priority areas of Azerbaijan's foreign policy", - Mammadyarov said.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister also touched upon the most important conditions for maintaining peace and stability in the region. He noted that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the main threat.

"The unresolved Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is the biggest threat to peace and stability in the region, and the development of regional cooperation as well. For more than 20 years, internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan is occupied by Armenia ", - the minister said.

Touching upon the issues of regional cooperation, Mammadyarov said that it is important to strengthen cooperation in the non-oil sector.

The next trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan will be held in Baku.
