Azerbaijan, Panama ink bilateral consultations memorandum

Azerbaijan and Panama signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral consultations, said Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Oct. 6.

The memorandum was signed during a meeting of Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and the Vice President and Foreign Minister of Panama Isabel Saint Malo de Alvarado.

The meeting was held as part of Minister Mammadyarov's official visit to Panama.

De Alvarado said during the meeting that Panama is interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan.

Mammadyarov, in his turn, noted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to development of all-round relations with the countries in Central and South America.

Azerbaijani FM, noting that there are favourable opportunities for cooperating in education, science and other humanitarian spheres, said the establishment of contacts between Azerbaijan's ADA University and Panama's Diplomatic Institute will be effective.

Briefing Panama's foreign minister about the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, Baku International Sea Trade Port and the potential of Azerbaijan's transport infrastructure, Mammadyarov said that the implementation of these projects will allow to increase the cargo transportation along the ancient Silk Road, as well as to expand the trade and economic relations.

He expressed gratitude for Panama's fair position based on the principles of the international law on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the resolution adopted by the country's parliament on recognizing the Khojaly genocide.

Panama's foreign minister noted that territorial integrity and sovereignty of states are important principles for her country.

Mammadyarov invited Panama's foreign minister to visit Azerbaijan.
