The statement of the Armenian leadership, which has lost its influence both inside the country and at the international level, is of regular nature and addressed to the domestic audience, Hikmat Hajiyev, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s spokesman, told Trend Aug. 2.

Hajiyev was commenting on the statement made Aug. 1 by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan regarding Azerbaijan’s occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Sarsgyan’s speech once again shows that being prisoner of the last century, the political leadership of Armenia doesn’t understand today’s reality and has warlord mentality of late 80s, Hajiyev said.

He added that he would like to remind the Armenian authorities, who falsify the history, of the Maragha-150 monument erected in Maragha village of Azerbaijan’s Aghdere district in 1978 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the resettlement of Armenians to the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

“The Maragha-150 monument was deliberately destroyed by Armenians in 1988 when they started territorial claims against Azerbaijan,” Hajiyev said. “Thus, Armenians may put forward territorial claims against other countries as well, where they lived for several decades before the resettlement, having stated that it is their ‘historical Armenian land’.”

Nagorno-Karabakh, temporarily occupied by Armenian armed forces, is an inseparable historical and sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, he added.

“Sooner or later, Azerbaijan's sovereignty over Nagorno-Karabakh will be fully restored,” Hajiyev said. “No one should ever doubt it.”
