Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met with his Australian counterpart Julie Bishop during the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry told Trend Sept.21.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the necessity of developing the political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Australia within the UN and other international organizations.

The foreign ministers exchanged views on the development of interparliamentary relations, arranging high-level reciprocal visits and the ways of expanding economic and trade relations.

Mammadyarov briefed his Australian counterpart about the process of negotiations on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

As OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs have said at the level of heads of state, the current status quo, which is based on the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, is unacceptable, he noted.
