Azerbaijan, remaining committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, actively supports international efforts in this direction, Elmar Mammadyarov, Azerbaijani foreign minister, said.

Mammadyarov made a statement at the ministerial meeting of the Friends of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) within the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“Azerbaijan is making contribution to the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program,” Mammadyarov said.

Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan is one of the first countries which supported the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.

The CTBT is a multilateral treaty that bans all nuclear explosions, for both civilian and military purposes. Azerbaijan signed the treaty on July 28, 1997.
