The international community’s support for Russia in Syria’s issue testifies to a realistic view of the current situation in the region, Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, said during a briefing Oct. 20.

Zakharova was commenting on support for Russia’s position on the situation in Syria.

”Of course for us it is important so that in their approach, the countries would come from the actual situation, not the media information campaign that is currently observed in the press,” Zakharova said.

Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview to Dmitry Kiselyov, director general of Russia Today, for Sputnik news agency, said that Russia’s approach to dealing with terrorists is justified.

"I consider Russia's approach when the country says that it is necessary to unite efforts against extremists, terrorists, radicals fully justified,” President Aliyev said. “We must not differentiate good and bad terrorists. Those who oppose you are bad, while those against your rival or opponent are good. "

Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed over 500,000 lives. Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops. The IS, the YPG and the PYD are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
