An inclusive political process has to be started to find political solution to the crises in Syria according to the will of all Syrian people, said Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in his interview with the Middle East News Agency (MENA) of Egypt.

“We have repeatedly stated that as the first step ceasefire and halting of hostilities should be ensured to ease the brunt of humanitarian crises mainly affecting children, women and elders,” he said.

“The territorial integrity and political unity of Syria has to be guaranteed and safeguarded,” noted Mammadyarov.

“Having faced with the problem of one million refugees and IDPs in the early years of its independence as a result of notorious ethnic cleansing conducted by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, we fully understand and share the concerns of the international community vis-à-vis the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Syria,” said the minister.

He added that Azerbaijan by virtue of its capabilities tries to contribute to the humanitarian aid efforts to alleviate the situation of Syrian refugees via international institutions.

Mammadyarov also emphasized the importance of taking all necessary measures to effectively confront the threats and challenges posed by terrorism, as well as to address its root causes, which include but are not limited to prolonged armed conflicts, illiteracy and social exclusion.
