Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit Azerbaijan until late 2016, however, the exact date of the visit is not yet known, Israel’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dan Stav said in an interview with Trend.

Stav added that this visit will be historical, because Netanyahu’s last visit to Azerbaijan was for few hours in 1997.

“So it is a great opportunity to meet again with the president of the country,” he said. “We have excellent relations and I do believe that ongoing interactions between the two senior leaders on the level of president of Azerbaijan and prime minister of Israel are of great importance in order to promote bilateral relations between the two countries.”

Normally interaction between such leaders is an opportunity to raise all the pending issues between the two countries both in political relations and economy, Stav noted.

Such a visit will give a right signal to the private sector in both Azerbaijan and Israel that the two countries’ governments are welcoming this cementing of economic ties, he said.

“We also try to push forward completion of certain agreements that will facilitate the interaction between private sectors of both countries,” Stav noted. “We consider Azerbaijan as a country with a great potential to develop agriculture, IT, pharmaceutical sector.”

The current slumping oil and gas prices are a great opportunity to diversify economy in Azerbaijan, Stav said.

“We really want to see Azerbaijani ministers going to Israel in order to develop relations, especially in agriculture, IT, communication, pharmaceutics,” the ambassador noted.
