Azerbaijan is interested in developing cooperation with Fujairah emirate of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on a mutually beneficial basis, Dashgin Shikarov, ambassador of Azerbaijan to the UAE, said at the meeting with Emir of Fujairah Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi Dec. 13.
The ambassador added that Azerbaijan sees good prospects for developing cooperation in such areas as trade, tourism, agrarian sector, investment.
Shikarov said that opening of a direct flight from Fujairah emirate to Azerbaijan, in particular, to Azerbaijani districts can also contribute to the development of such cooperation.
The diplomat asked Emir of Fujairah to consider that issue.
Shikarov said that as a result of the simplification of the visa regime by Azerbaijan for the UAE citizens, the flow of tourists to the country increased by 25-30 times.
The diplomat added that the number of Azerbaijan-UAE flights increased up to 28 per week.
Shikarov said that another flight will be opened from March 2017, in particular, Air Arabia airline will make Baku-Sharjah-Baku flight.
The diplomat informed Emir of Fujairah about a favorable business sphere, economic indicators and big regional projects which are being implemented in Azerbaijan.
The ambassador urged Fujairah’s businessmen to invest in the Azerbaijani economy.
Emir of Fujairah expressed interest in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan in many spheres and stressed readiness to assist and support in that issue.
According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the UAE exceeded $57 million in January-September 2016. Some $50 million of that amount accounted for the import of products from the UAE.
