Non-accession of Kyrgyzstan to the political clauses of the declaration, adopted at the 13th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Islamabad, causes surprise and misunderstanding, Novruz Mammadov, deputy head of Azerbaijani presidential administration, chief of the administration’s foreign relations department, told reporters in Baku March 4.

Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan has always been at a good level and it will continue, he said, adding that Azerbaijan rendered assistance to the country in certain issues.

“There was nothing unusual in the declaration. It stated the issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty of states, as well as peaceful settlement of conflicts in line with the principles of international law based on the compliance with principles and requirements set by the UN. Non-accession of Kyrgyzstan to these issues surprised us,” said Mammadov.

He noted that in today's complex and tense world, countries are not secure against certain problems, and given that, head of states must be wise and farsighted.

In the declaration, the member states of the ECO openly declared that the existence of conflicts in the ECO space hinders economic development and regional cooperation. At the same time, the declaration emphasizes that progress, peace and security in the region are directly related to sustainable development and stability.
