INTERPOL EXECUTIVE HINTS AT TOUGH DETENTION OF WANTED SUSPECTS

An urgent warrant has been issued demanding the search of Tahir Khubanov and Teymuraz Aliyev, citizens of Georgia, who are wanted in 182 countries on suspicion of the murder of an Azeri journalist this spring.

Following the announcement, Col. Madat Guliyev, the head of Interpol’s Azerbaijan bureau, told Trend that the Interpol’s General Secretariat had got everything arranged for search operations. “In a day or two, there will be launched operations in 182 countries for the urgent search of two men suspected of the murder of Elmar Husseinov,” he said.

Elmar Husseinov was the editor-in-chief of Monitor, a weekly magazine that steered the source of hard-line criticism of the authorities in Azerbaijan. Shortly after the murder, the magazine closed forever, as the Husseinov family announced.

Meanwhile, Madatov added that the preparatory is underway to issue an international warrant for the search of Rza Balaguliyev, a citizen of Russia who is wanted on suspicion of an order to kill the president of Azad Azerbaycan (free Azerbaijan) TV holding, and the Appeal Court judge Bahram Shukurov.
