AZERBAIJAN, TURKEY CLINCH FOUR AGREEMENTS

Four agreements were signed in Baku on Thursday under the official visit of Rejep Tayyib Erdogan, the Turkish Prime Minister, to Baku. These were a protocol on technical cooperation, an agreement on cooperation in the veterinary sphere, an agreement on copyright, as well as a joint communiquГ©. The last document was by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Erdogan, Trend reports.

In his remarks after the signing of the ceremony Aliyev stated that Erdogan’s visit to Azerbaijan would play considerable role in the development of bilateral relationships. The Azerbaijani leader appreciated the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey as a positive factor, benefiting not only the two states, but the entire region. He marked the implementation of big projects, as well as the role of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum oil and gas pipelines.

President Aliyev thanked Erdogan for Turkey’s full support to Azerbaijan’s position on the resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. В"We hope in the resolution of the conflict in accordance with the international principles and rehabilitation of the territory integrity of Azerbaijan,В" Aliyev said. The same time the head of state note the potential for the development of trade and economic relationships. В"Goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey grew 150% in 2005 as compared to 2004. However, there is a potential and I am sure in the continuation of economic relationships,” he underlined.

Aliyev also noted that the talks with the participation of the Turkish PM focused on both bilateral and regional issues, as well as joint activities of the two countries’ in the international organizations. В"Azerbaijan and Turkey do not have disagreement on any issues,В" the Azerbaijani President underlined.

Noting the fraternal relationships between the two countries Erdogan reminded Heydar Aliyev’s famous words вЂ�two states, one nation’. Erdogan said that there exist great potential for the development of economic and relationships between the two countries. В"The goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey might increase to $1bn in the near prospect,В" Erdogan stressed. He also confirmed Turkey’s support to Azerbaijan in the resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Turkish Prime Minister announced that a ceremony of fulfillment of a tanker with the Azerbaijani oil will be held at the Ceyhan terminal on 27 October, and voiced his hope that President Aliyev would honor the ceremony.
