Sociopolitical situation in Azerbaijan, as well as democratization of the Election Code, the upcoming parliamentary elections and necessity of making changes in the composition of election commissions topped the agenda of today’s meeting between a prominent female oppositionist and leader of the Yeni Siayasat (YeS) election bloc, Lala Shovkat Hajiyeva, and head of the Council of Europe’s GT-Suivi Ago Group, German envoy Roland Wegener.
Lala Shovkat and Mr. Wegener also discussed the would-be progress of the case of Elmar Husseinov, a journalist killed in early March in frond of his apartment, reads a press statement by the National Unity movement. Ms. Shovkat heads that movement.
Both didn’t rule out a confrontation in case of unfair elections and rigging the results of voting.
