PRESIDENT ALIYEV RECEIVES HEAD OF AGO GROUP

The forthcoming elections scheduled for November assumes special importance for democratic developments in Azerbaijan, Ronald Wegener, Geramn diplomat, the head of Ago monitoring group of the PACE Ministerial Committee, sated in meeting with Azerbaijani President on Friday. He noted that since his last visit to the region, too many changes have been observed in the country.

The Ambassador underlined that the last presidential decrees on pardon, improvement of elections practice, as well as positive results of changes in the penitentiary system, ensuing of human rights of prisoners, granting equal rights for all candidates nominated for MP, establishment of a dialogue with opposition representatives, as well as permit for holding rallies, were the concrete examples for organization of democratic reforms in the country.

According to Wegener, members of the Ago group took great interests in President’s Aliyev’s interview for Turkish channel CNN Turk.

In his turn Aliyev said that the next visit of Ago would open more and more opportunities for comprehensive consideration of issues of mutual interests.

During the meeting they had exchange of opinions on the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
